camp
With close to 20 years of overnight camp experience, I know how overwhelming it can be for a child to go to camp for the first time. For both the child and the parent, this experience is often the first time that they will be away from each other for an extended period. As a first time camper, children will be faced with several challenges. While camp can be an incredibly positive experience, this is only true when campers are well-prepared.
Over the last 13 years, I have worked with young campers and staff in a camp setting who have experienced anxiety and sadness which has stemmed from homesickness and being unprepared for the camp experience. Preparing your child for overnight camp in an appropriate way can lead to them having a much more successful overnight camp experience. In just a few sessions, I work with parents and children to talk about camp, and ensure that they are well prepared for a wonderful first time experience that will hopefully lead to a lifetime of memorable summers.
